What to Check Before Buying a Used Hot Forging Press

Frame and tie rods

Inspect tie rod nuts and the crown for cracks. Tie rod elongation is the most common structural defect on high-tonnage presses and requires expensive specialist repair.

Clutch and brake

Check friction linings, pressure springs and pneumatic supply. A worn clutch increases the stopping angle and creates a safety certification problem.

Eccentric shaft and bearings

Measure radial play in the main shaft bearings. Excessive play causes stroke irregularity and accelerates die wear.

Guides and gibs

Check slide clearance. Hot forging tolerates more play than coining, but excessive wear causes misalignment at top dead center.

Safety systems

Verify all safety interlocks, two-hand control and overload protection are functional before purchase.

Why Source a Used Forging Press from Poland

Poland holds one of the largest secondary inventories of heavy forging presses in Central Europe. Soviet-built machines (TMP Voronezh, Barnaul) and Western imports (Massey, SMS Eumuco, Lasco, Schuler and Ajax) were operated by state forging enterprises and are now available well below replacement cost. EU-based purchase means no import duties within the EU and invoicing in EUR. TRIGA handles dismantling, loading and export logistics for all machines.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Current machines and their technical specifications are listed in the grid above. Availability changes as units are sold and new machines are sourced from Poland and Central Europe. Contact us with your specific tonnage, brand or year requirements and we will advise on availability.

Physical inspection at the storage location is always possible. Running the press under power depends on current electrical connection at the site — contact us to confirm the specific machine's status.

Original Russian, Czech or German documentation is available for most machines. We can arrange technical translation when source documentation allows it. CE assessment for installation is the buyer's responsibility, together with a qualified safety consultant.

TRIGA coordinates craning, disassembly to shipping dimensions, loading onto flatbed or low-loader, transport permits and export documents. Cost depends on destination and machine weight.

From signed contract to machine at your facility: typically 4–8 weeks within Europe, 8–14 weeks for overseas destinations including customs clearance.

Closed-die hot forging forms the part inside a matched die cavity, unlike open-die forging where the material is shaped between simpler open tools. For closed-die work, press selection depends on stroke, shut height, bolster size, slide guiding and stroke rate (spm), because the press must fit the tooling and hold alignment through repeated production strokes. TRIGA's TMP, Massey and EUMUCO presses are typically used for closed-die forging applications.
