Automotive forgings
The 1000-ton class covers mid-range automotive components: connecting rods, steering knuckles, axle shafts and smaller crankshafts in the 1–5 kg range. Table sizes on machines in this class (typically 800×1000 mm to 1250×850 mm) fit standard automotive die sets.
Flanges and structural parts
Flanges for piping systems, hubs for agricultural machinery and smaller railway components are all within this tonnage range. Most mid-weight carbon and alloy steel forgings fall within the 1000-ton class.
Cold forging and coining

The Barnaul K8340 knuckle joint press has a 170 mm stroke and runs at 32 strokes per minute; it weighs approximately 26 tons, built for coining, calibration and cold forging where maximum force lands at the bottom of the stroke. The EUMUCO SP 100 hot forging press has a 250 mm stroke and runs at 100 strokes per minute; it weighs 50 tons, built for high-output hot forging of automotive components in closed dies. Same nominal rating, different machine in every other respect.
Transport and Installation
Machine weight
A 1000-ton knuckle joint press in this class, the Barnaul K8340 for example, weighs approximately 26 tons. A hot forging press of the same nominal capacity runs heavier: the EUMUCO SP 100 weighed 50 tons. Both fit on a standard heavy flatbed or low-loader.
Permits and routing
Oversized permits are needed only when loaded dimensions exceed standard EU road limits: width over 2.55 m or height over 4.0 m. Remove the slide or flywheel before loading and many presses in this class fit within standard dimensions.
Foundation
Refer to the machine manufacturer's foundation drawing for anchor bolt layout and recommended concrete depth. Vibration-damping pads or a mass-concrete inertia block are standard for presses in production use. TRIGA provides the original documentation for all machines we offer.
What to Check at Inspection
Frame and uprights
Check the upright-to-crown connection for cracks. On machines of this age, visible surface cracks are unusual; any weld repair in the frame structure warrants investigation before purchase.
Slide guides and clearances
Excessive play in the slide guides affects die alignment and part accuracy. Measure clearance against the manufacturer's tolerance. On a knuckle joint press, the guides carry the full off-center load during coining and calibration; guide wear matters more here than on a hot forging press.
Clutch and brake
Verify engagement and disengagement response, and inspect the friction lining thickness. A worn brake increases the stopping angle and creates a safety certification problem on machines entering EU production.
Main shaft bearings
Check for radial play in the main shaft bearings. On older Soviet-built presses, the main shaft uses large-diameter sleeve bearings that can be remetalled; excessive play indicates this service is due.
Electrical cabinet
Original cabinets on 1970s–1980s machines may no longer meet local electrical safety standards. Assess cabinet condition during inspection and budget for renewal before putting the machine into production.
