Used Massey Hot Forging Presses
B & S Massey of Manchester, founded in 1860, was a historic British builder of forging equipment, including hammers and mechanical hot forging presses used in forge shops across Britain and Europe. Recent TRIGA reference machines (600, 1000 and 1300 ton Massey hot forging presses) have been sold. For current enquiries, TRIGA sources Massey presses through a partner network on request, with inspection, dismantling and export logistics arranged around each candidate machine.

About Massey Hot Forging Presses
Massey hot forging presses on the European used market are typically mechanical presses with eccentric drive systems, heavy frames and straightforward clutch-brake controls. They were built for repeated hot die forging cycles where slide speed, die closure consistency and frame rigidity matter more than decorative controls or automation.
The TRIGA reference machines cover 600, 1000 and 1300 ton capacities. The 600 ton press has a 200 mm stroke. The 1000 ton press has a 254 mm stroke, 95 strokes per minute and a 50 kW main motor. The 1300 ton press has a 254 mm stroke and 90 strokes per minute. These figures make the group suitable for automotive, railway and general engineering forgings, subject to die size, shut height and buyer process requirements.
Used Massey presses require a conventional mechanical inspection: clutch and brake condition, eccentric shaft wear, slide guide clearance, frame condition and electrical controls. TRIGA documents available candidate machines at the source location and can coordinate dismantling, loading and export once the buyer accepts a specific machine.

What to Check When Buying a Used Massey Press
Clutch and brake
Check lining wear, spring pressure, pneumatic or mechanical actuation and stopping angle. A tired clutch-brake unit creates safety risk and inconsistent press timing, especially on hot forging cycles.
Eccentric shaft and bearings
Measure radial play and inspect bearing housings for fretting or scoring. Shaft and bearing repairs on a high-tonnage mechanical press require heavy lifting, careful alignment and realistic downtime planning.
Slide guides and gibs
Measure slide clearance on all guide faces. Excessive lateral movement affects die alignment, increases tool wear and can show up as uneven flash or part geometry variation.
Frame and tie points
Inspect the crown, uprights, bed and tie areas for cracks, repairs and signs of overload. Older forging presses can work for decades, but hidden frame damage changes the economics of the purchase.
Electrical system and controls
Verify motor data, contactors, overload protection, two-hand controls and safety interlocks. Original 380 V, 50 Hz systems may need adaptation before the press enters production at the buyer site.
Frequently Asked Questions
Massey mechanical hot forging presses are used for hot die forging of automotive, railway, agricultural and general engineering components. Typical work includes shafts, levers, brackets, connecting parts and other steel forgings where a fast mechanical press cycle is useful.
Recent TRIGA reference machines (600, 1000 and 1300 ton Massey hot forging presses) have been sold. We can source Massey presses through our partner network on request when a buyer sends the required tonnage, die envelope and destination.
TRIGA sells machines as found. We do not supply spare parts. Parts sourcing is the buyer's responsibility. Standard bearings, clutch linings and electrical components may be sourced from industrial suppliers; major drive components usually require specialist repair or manufacture to drawing.
Yes. TRIGA can organise dismantling and loading at the source location. If the buyer prefers to arrange their own crew, we coordinate access and timing with the seller.
Yes. We arrange shipping to any destination - Europe, Asia, India, the Middle East. Road transport goes with CMR documentation; for intercontinental shipments we handle Bill of Lading and export paperwork. All logistics are covered under the sale contract.
