Used Šmeral Forging and Trimming Presses
Šmeral Brno has built forging and forming machinery in Brno since 1861. LKT crank trimming presses and LE eccentric presses run in forging lines across Europe, chosen for long service life and mechanical simplicity. The most practical reason to buy Šmeral on the used market: the company still manufactures presses. Genuine spare parts and current technical documentation are available directly from the factory.

About Šmeral Brno
Šmeral Brno is a long-established Czech manufacturer of forging and forming machinery, with presses operating across Central and Eastern Europe.
The LKT series is Šmeral's line of crank trimming presses. TRIGA's reference model, the LKT 250, is rated at 250 tons with a 250 mm stroke. The design uses an eccentric-crank drive with a large, rigid cast frame and substantial guide length, producing consistent cut quality over long production runs. LKT presses are frequently found at the end of hot forging lines paired with Šmeral LKM, TMP Voronezh or SMS Eumuco hot forging presses.
The LE series covers eccentric presses for cold forming, blanking, punching and shallow trimming operations. The LE 400 C (400 ton, 80 mm stroke) is a compact machine suited to secondary operations after hot trimming: calibration, coining and cold sizing of forgings.
Šmeral Brno continues active production at its Brno facility (smeral.cz), manufacturing new hot forging presses, cross-wedge rolling machines and automated forging lines. No other press brand common on the Central European used market matches this: genuine spare parts catalogues and trained service engineers exist for every Šmeral production series. For a buyer planning a 15–20 year service life, that counts.

What to Check When Buying a Used Šmeral Press
Crank and eccentric drive (LKT)
Check the eccentric shaft and main bearing for wear and radial play. The LKT drive is robust, but years of high-cycle trimming operation can cause bearing fretting and shaft scoring. Replacement shafts are available from Šmeral Brno directly.
Guide and gib wear
Slide clearance on trimming presses directly affects cut quality and die life. Verify clearance on all four guide faces. Gibs on Šmeral presses are adjustable and replaceable; worn gibs are a normal maintenance item.
Overload protection
Šmeral LKT presses use hydraulic overload protection. Confirm the hydraulic cylinder and pressure valve are present and functional. Bypassed or removed overload devices are common on older machines and must be restored before the machine returns to production.
Clutch and brake (LKT)
LKT presses use pneumatic friction clutch-brake units. Check lining thickness, spring pressure and the air pressure switch. Šmeral clutch parts are available as genuine spares or from EU aftermarket suppliers.
Documentation
Šmeral maintains archives for machines produced since the 1950s. Request the original technical passport (technický průkaz) and operating manual; Šmeral Brno can often supply replacements for lost documentation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Šmeral Brno a.s. continues active production in Brno, Czech Republic. Current products include hot forging presses, cross-wedge rolling machines and automated forging lines. Spare parts and current technical support are accessible for both new and legacy Šmeral machines.
LKT is Šmeral's crank trimming press, designed for hot and cold trimming of flash from die forgings. It is also used for blanking, punching and shallow forming operations. The LKT 250 (250 ton, 250 mm stroke, 20 spm) is the model TRIGA references, suited to small and medium forgings.
TRIGA does not manufacture spare parts, but used mechanical components recovered during dismantling are listed when they physically exist — gears, shafts, hubs and drive parts for the Smeral LZK 4000 and LKM 2500 forging presses are currently in the spare parts catalogue. Šmeral Brno is also still an active manufacturer and supplies new spare parts for legacy LKT and LE models directly.
LKT is Šmeral's trimming press series, designed for flash trimming, blanking and secondary operations. LKM is the hot forging press series, used for primary hot die forging. The two families are structurally similar but rated for different load cycles and operating temperatures.
Yes. TRIGA can organise dismantling and loading at the source location. If the buyer prefers to arrange their own crew, we coordinate access and timing with the seller.
Yes. We arrange shipping to any destination — Europe, Asia, India, the Middle East. Road transport goes with CMR documentation; for intercontinental shipments we handle Bill of Lading and export paperwork. All logistics are covered under the sale contract.
