About Šmeral Brno

Šmeral Brno is a long-established Czech manufacturer of forging and forming machinery, with presses operating across Central and Eastern Europe.

The LKT series is Šmeral's line of crank trimming presses. TRIGA's reference model, the LKT 250, is rated at 250 tons with a 250 mm stroke. The design uses an eccentric-crank drive with a large, rigid cast frame and substantial guide length, producing consistent cut quality over long production runs. LKT presses are frequently found at the end of hot forging lines paired with Šmeral LKM, TMP Voronezh or SMS Eumuco hot forging presses.

The LE series covers eccentric presses for cold forming, blanking, punching and shallow trimming operations. The LE 400 C (400 ton, 80 mm stroke) is a compact machine suited to secondary operations after hot trimming: calibration, coining and cold sizing of forgings.

What to Check When Buying a Used Šmeral Press

Crank and eccentric drive (LKT)

Check the eccentric shaft and main bearing for wear and radial play. The LKT drive is robust, but years of high-cycle trimming operation can cause bearing fretting and shaft scoring. Replacement shafts are available from Šmeral Brno directly.

Guide and gib wear

Slide clearance on trimming presses directly affects cut quality and die life. Verify clearance on all four guide faces. Gibs on Šmeral presses are adjustable and replaceable; worn gibs are a normal maintenance item.

Overload protection

Šmeral LKT presses use hydraulic overload protection. Confirm the hydraulic cylinder and pressure valve are present and functional. Bypassed or removed overload devices are common on older machines and must be restored before the machine returns to production.

Clutch and brake (LKT)
