The 1L532 is the Stanko Sedin machine that appears most on the European used market. Two cast columns carry a horizontal cross-rail supporting the turning and boring head. Swing diameter is 3200 mm, faceplate 2800 mm, turning height 1600 mm, maximum workpiece weight 16 tonnes, machine weight approximately 43 tonnes. The main drive motor is 55 kW. What to Check When Buying a Used Stanko Sedin 1L532
Faceplate run-out and spindle condition
Measure radial and axial run-out at the faceplate outer edge and at a test mandrel in the spindle. The 1L532 spindle runs in large tapered roller bearings; worn bearings produce run-out above 0.05–0.08 mm and audible noise at higher speeds. Spindle bearing replacement is a major job on a 43-tonne machine.
Cross-rail saddle and vertical slide
Check gib clearance on the cross-rail and both vertical slides. Worn gibs allow chatter and reduce surface finish quality. Inspect for scoring or fretting on the guide surfaces; repairable, but each defect adds to reconditioning cost.
Gearbox and spindle speed range
Engage all 18 spindle speeds and confirm smooth engagement with no abnormal noise. Soviet-era gearboxes are robust, but years of heavy use wear bearings and gears in the speed ranges run most often. Check that the lubrication system is functional and oil is clean.
Electrical system and controls
Check the 55 kW main drive motor, contactor condition and relay logic. Soviet electrics from the 1970s–1990s work, but relay and contactor spares require sourcing from Eastern European suppliers. Confirm all interlocks and feed drives operate.
Column geometry and levelness
Check column verticality with a precision level. On a 43-tonne machine that has been moved, column geometry shifts. Misaligned columns affect parallelism and squareness of every machined surface; correction requires shimming the base and re-tramming.
